Worshipful Master's Message - March 2022

Each month, the Worshipful Master provides an update on current events in relation to Freemasonry in general and Lodge No. 2 in particular. Please see below for for this month’s message from the Worshipful Master of Lodge No. 2.

Dear Brethren,

As Pennsylvania Masons, we are privileged to have access to one of the leading institutions of Masonic education – the Academy of Masonic Knowledge of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania.  Each year in March and October, the Academy hosts symposiums where scholars of Freemasonry from around the world give presentations on the history, symbolism, and philosophy of the Craft.  These gatherings were placed on hold during the pandemic, but were restarted in October of 2021.  The next symposium is scheduled for March 19 at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown.  All Pennsylvania Masons are welcome, and a link to a livestream of the symposium is available on the Academy’s website.  If you have some free time that day, I encourage you to tune in!

The Academy’s website also has recordings available of its previous symposiums.  For our program this month, we will be watching an excerpt of a presentation given in March 2018 by Bro. Dr. Ric Berman, a past master of Quator Coronati Lodge No. 2076, the world’s premier lodge of Masonic research.  His talk, entitled “Foundations: New Light on the Formation and Early Years of the Grand Lodge of England,” was the 2016 Prestonian Lecture – the only presentation of Masonic education given under the authority of the United Grand Lodge of England and a high honor for the chosen speaker.  In his lecture, Bro. Dr. Berman tells the story of the beginnings of Freemasonry, and its evolution into the now-familiar institution that has endured the moral test of ages.  I look forward to seeing you all!

Sincerely and fraternally,

Paul R. Cleveland
