Worshipful Master's Message - October 2025
/Each month, the Worshipful Master provides an update on current events in relation to Freemasonry in general and Lodge No. 2 in particular. Please see below for this month’s message from the Worshipful Master of Lodge No. 2.
Brethren,
This is not the usual message, so please bear with me.
On Mon., 15-Sep-2025, my mother passed away. Last year in April of 2024, my biological father passed away. These are the people that brought me into this world, ultimately making it possible for me to be of service to our lodge. Though sometimes fraught, my relationship with my parents nevertheless had a lasting impression on my life and helped shape me into the man I am today.
This message is not meant to invoke sympathy or pity, as those that know me on a personal and professional level understand that my personal dealings are kept private; this is to inform you how Freemasonry helped me navigate the loss of those near and dear to me. The phrase, “Pay the Craft their wages…,” is best exemplified by the outpouring of support my family received during these challenging times. True to the oft repeated mantra: “You get back from Freemasonry, what you put into it”, the Craft taught me to break through walls that might otherwise impede connections to friends and family. As an example, Bro. Scott Watkins, P.M. and I like to keep Bro. James T. Clancy, D.D.G.M. on his toes with our antics, which has in turn provided me with a renewed perspective on life. Three generations of men; one common cause.
You, my Brothers, also inspire me. You—being the foundation and the pillars—represent the many hands that make light work. The bonds and friendships that are taking root in our lodge—helping each other through our various stages in life, planting seeds and listening to different perspectives—ensure that each of us knock off the corners of our rough stones.
Thank you all for supporting my vision for Lodge No. 2’s next exciting chapter. Take heart that there is a method to the madness. In the words of our District Deputy: “Pete, I swear you are possessed.” My response: “I can assure you I am not; the other voices in my head tell me otherwise.”All the best,
Peter B. Lavelle, P.M.
