Lodge No. 2 Participates in Ronald McDonald House Charity Cook-Off

Members of Lodge No. 2 spent a particularly chilly Sunday afternoon whipping up a fine assortment of culinary masterpieces to benefit patients and their families staying at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House at their Chestnut Street campus in Philadelphia. Participants rolled up their sleeves, set their ovens ablaze and went to work crafting an array of foodstuffs including casseroles, lasagna, macaroni and cheese, Caesar salad, home-made brownies and freshly grilled hamburgers, hotdogs and chicken tenders. Now in its seventh year, Lodge No. 2’s Annual Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House Charity Cook-Off is the chapter’s marquis philanthropy event, underscoring Freemasonry’s commitment to community outreach in the Greater Philadelphia area.

The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House (PRMH)—affectionately referred to as the “first house love built”—is a mission driven nonprofit that supports the families of seriously ill children by creating a community of comfort and hope. Established in 1974, the PRMH supports families by providing affordable lodging to loved ones accompanying their children as they undergo extensive medical treatments at the area’s local pediatric hospitals including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and the Shriners Hospital for Children. Volunteers, nonprofits, civic associations, universities and businesses routinely volunteer as part of the PRMH’s Guest Chefs program by preparing home cooked meals at the house’s on-site kitchen to patients and their families.
