Worshipful Master's Message - May 2021

Each month, the Worshipful Master provides an update on current events in relation to Freemasonry in general and Lodge No. 2 in particular. Please see below for for this month’s message from the Worshipful Master of Lodge No. 2.

Dear Brethren,

It was great to see all of you back in Egyptian Hall for our April stated meeting.  We had an excellent turnout, and I hope that bodes well for the rest of the year.

As I write this, my arm is still sore from getting my first COVID vaccine shot!  Over 120 million Americans have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and that number is steadily growing day after day.  All Pennsylvania and New Jersey residents are now eligible to receive the vaccine, so make sure to sign up as soon as possible if you haven’t already!  With every shot, we slowly but surely move back towards normal, so please do your part and get vaccinated.

One of the marvels of our Fraternity is how every step of a Freemason’s continuing journey through the Craft is built upon the oaths, obligations, and moral lessons that he has already been given.  Each of the three degrees of Blue Lodge Freemasonry is established upon what has come before – even the Entered Apprentice degree is built upon a candidate’s belief in something greater than themselves.  After being raised, a Master Mason has the choice to continue his Masonic journey by joining one of the many appendant bodies of Freemasonry.  They arise out of, and expand upon, the same symbolism and ritual that we practice in Blue Lodge.  We will learn more about these rituals at this month’s meeting, when Bro. Stephen Meister, Pursuivant of our Lodge, will be giving a presentation on the Symbolism of the Scottish Rite First Degree.

Sincerely and fraternally,

Paul R. Cleveland
