Worshipful Master's Message - January 2021
/Each month, the Worshipful Master provides an update on current events in relation to Freemasonry in general and Lodge No. 2 in particular. Please see below for for this month’s message from the Worshipful Master of Lodge No. 2.
Brethren,
For the first time I can remember, the words “Happy New Year” actually mean something. I don’t think anyone was sad to see 2020 come to an end. Our lives, and the lives of virtually everyone around the world, have dramatically changed in ways we never could have imagined, and just because the calendar has turned doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods yet. As a reminder, we will not be holding a Stated Meeting this coming Tuesday, in accordance with the Grand Master’s order suspending in-person Masonic activity until next month.
As Freemasons, we have a threefold obligation to God, our neighbor, and ourselves. The second of those duties, to our neighbor, has never been as important as it is today. Now more than ever, there are people that are desperately in need of our Masonic charity. So, check in on a Brother or two! Remind them of the friendship and brotherly love we share regardless of how long it’s been since we were able to meet in Lodge. And remember – all people, not just Brothers of the Craft, are entitled to that charity. There are so many ways in which we can help our communities to get through these tough times, like supporting local businesses and restaurants or donating to a food bank. In fact, our next Stated Meeting will be focused on how we as a Lodge can help those who are most in need as a result of the pandemic. We have a remarkable opportunity to show the world what Masons are made of.
And remember, this is not the first time that extraordinary events have kept us from seeing each other – Lodge No. 2 was unable to meet for about two years during the Revolutionary War. We made it through that, and we can get through this. Stay safe, and I’ll see you soon.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Paul R. Cleveland
