Worshipful Master's Message - April 2026

Each month, the Worshipful Master provides an update on current events in relation to Freemasonry in general and Lodge No. 2 in particular. Please see below for this month’s message from the Worshipful Master of Lodge No. 2.

Brethren,

From the conversations I have had with many of you, it is clear that Bro. Michael J. Vivas, Junior Warden, did an outstanding job in my absence during March. I am grateful for his leadership and dedication.

While in Istanbul, I had the opportunity to spend time near the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, where cats freely roam the grounds. As I sat on a ledge in the plaza, one cat took kindly to me. It allowed me to pet it and soon grew so comfortable that it lay down, exposing its belly—a position cats reserve only for those they trust. Many tourists stopped to take pictures, so I may very well be appearing somewhere on social media.

On my flight home, I reflected on that moment and recalled a saying I heard long ago, which I now share in a Masonic context: “If your titles and accolades precede your actions, you have failed.” That cat cared nothing for my titles or station; it responded only to who I am. Brethren, this serves as a reminder that our actions—far more than our titles or words—define us and shape how we are perceived by others.

This month, I would also like to extend my thanks to Bro. Jonathan D. Teysko, Secretary, for stepping forward and working with several brothers on the presentation, “Masonic Ritual in Spain.” I am confident it will be both enjoyable and enlightening.

Fraternally,

Peter B. Lavelle, P.M.
